I don't know why I enjoy the music of the band RUSH so much but I do. I just saw them live in Pittsburgh, PA last week after driving down to Columbus, OH in late August to see them there. It was a great experience...both times.
For one reason or another I have re-connected with this band, a favorite of mine in my early teen years, oh so long ago. I know that I enjoy the thoughtful and thought provoking lyrics in addition to the music itself. There is just something in those songs that move me and always have.
It has also given Kim and I a chance to get away for a couple of days and just have some fun. I'd almost forgotten that life can be fun, it doesn't' have to be just work....and pain. Sounds strange but for the most part that was my perception. It sucked....really sucked to live that way. Glad things are different now and I can lighten up. Just be a kid at heart and in reality...for an evening anyway.
Ironically, the RUSH TOUR this year is called the Time Machine Tour....now how freakin' appropriate is that, eh?! I think I've always found those old songs of theirs timeless and their new material still resonates w/me. They certainly are not a nostalgia act...not selling out 18,000 seat arenas most nights this summer and playing a wide selection of their music, from the earliest tunes to 2 brand new selections that will be on their upcoming album early next year.
Another attraction for me has always been the guys themselves...I truly admire them for their talent, their vision...the shear heart involved, the passion as well as the intellect. I truly appreciate how they do there thing...and it moves me!
I just turned Alex on to the 2112 album, he can't stop listening to it. How cool is that!
ReplyDeleteThat is really cool Glenn. I was probably 12 or 13 when I started listening to them so a bit younger then Alex. It does not surprise me with his interest in Sci-Fi that he would like the futuristic story line of that album. That's neat, I'm glad you shared that w/me...
