The Dresden Dolls....SING
there is this thing that is like touching except that you don't touch
back in the day it just went without saying at all
all the worlds history gradually dying of shock
there is this thing that is like talking except you don't talk
you sing
you sing
sing for the bartender sing for the janitor sing
sing for the camera sing for the animals sing
sing for the children shooting the children sing
sing for the teachers who told you that you couldn't sing
there is this thing that is keeping our lungs and lips locked. It is called fear and it is seeing a great renaissance
after the show you can not sing wherever you want
but for now let's just pretend we're all gonna get bombed
so sing
sing cause it's obvious sing for the astronauts sing
sing for the president sing for the terrorists sing
sing for the soccer team sing for the janjaweed sing
sing for the kid with the phone who refuses to sing
just sing
life is no cabaret
we don't care what you say
we're inviting anyways
you motherfuckers will sing some day
Ah yes, the Dresden Dolls. Oh how I like thee, my new favorite band (for today anyway). I have a short attention span...
Honestly this sing...er..song cuts right to the chase...SING, just SING. And you know something? That is exactly how I feel today, just please let me SING...
The lines:
"There is a thing that is keeping our lungs and lips locked
it is called fear and it is seeing a great renaissance"
Well they just kick my a** and in my short existence on this planet I would say they hold true...we fear more these days which I find rather strange for a couple of reasons:
1) We just came through the Nuclear Age/Cold War Stare Down between America and the Soviets. Believe me the world had real f**king reasons to fear every single day that some nut job here or in Russia would start that unstoppable chain reaction to begin Word War III that would then end the world.
2) In this era today, a true information age...you would think with all the knowledge we have we would fear less because we aren't as ignorant (or not supposed to be anyway), yet we fear more. Perhaps because as individuals we THINK for ourselves less....who knows?
Any way, this little ditty really got my wheels (brain wheels) turning last night and I've been humming and listening to it ever since.
OK, back to reality. Today is the Great Urine Collection Day! I wonder if Federal Employees get the day off tomorrow?! Please remeber to carry the bloody orange bottle around with you at all times....
