Cereal And The Colon

I just wanted to drop by this morning to represent...to be present here and post, why? Obligation I suppose is part of it but I get such a positive energy back when I do. It is what I do and I guess I always fall back on the original intent of the blog:To capture what it is like to be a person in active recovery from alcohol/drug addiction. To do that requires (in my opinion anyway) posting every day if not multiple times per day.

Writing this blog can be hard..I've had to learn to be consistent, to post regularly and once I got into a routine with that I found that I was writing several posts a day. Then I have to stop and make sure they were worthwhile and I was just writing gibberish, though some will most certainly claim that I am indeed posting gibberish here on Shell Shock!

I visit the surgeon this morning at 9:45a.I should get some answers regarding the Stomach/Esophagus surgery: Date/outpatient or inpatient, etc. I should get results from the biopsies done last week in the stomach and of the diseased area where the esophagus connects to the stomach. He should describe the surgery itself as well. We will schedule the Colonoscopy and discuss the game plan so far.
Drawing of the digestive tract with labels pointing to the liver, stomach, small intestine, colon, rectum, and anus. The colon is shaded.

I'll admit, I'm getting inpatient when I'm not doing anything...I really want to get on with it. But I realize that things take time to get scheduled, etc. I feel really ill and that of course doesn't help. Part of me wishes they would hospitalize me and do the stomach surgery plus all the testing/biopsy/additional surgery all in one stroke. Perhaps that is possible...I really do not know...

Until then I wait, as patiently as possible and do what I can. It is getting increasingly harder to do the stuff I need to do each day. I can feed myself/cook but I get so tired that I often just fall back on eating cereal. It is one of the few things I can stomach anyway so it kills 2 birds w/one stone.

Speaking of cereal, I've made a major switch from Honey Bunches of Oats now to eating primarily Corn Chex. Nothing against H.B.O's, it is still one of my Favs...I just needed some variety...I am eating so much cereal these days that I had to change things up. So the line-up today is Corn Chex batting lead-off with Corn Flakes and Honey Bunches of Oats (H.B.O's) in a pinch hitting role.

OK, well that gets me launched into the new day...thank you for sharing this little bit 'o time together this morning...it's always good to imagine those happy, smiling morning people faces out there at 6a!

  3. If I COULD, I would eat Captain Crunch... NOT healthy, but damn good. Honey Bunches of Oats are great. Try adding honey and walnuts to Cornflakes... Haven't done that in a couple decades. Lately I've been back eating Quaker Instant Oatmeal... comfort and warmth in a bowl.
