I am reading a book called "Just Kids" by Patti Smith. It is a book about her and the Artist/Photographer Robert Mapplethorpe as they were living together in their early 20's in New York City in the late 1960's.
The book is really quite good. I'm a bit biased because I always liked Patti's music and her Poetry. This is a fascinating story of two kids finding themselves through each other and this shared experience in The CITY.
Unfortunately I can't provided links because the computers here at MAYO won't copy/paste but her work and his is easy to find via Google and other web searches.
It was an exciting time to be in NYC because the 1960's music/Jazz scene was alive and well as was Andy Warhol's whole FACTORY and other assorted weirdos and artists. Robert and her lived for a time at The Chelsea Hotel, home to a lot of wayward artists at that time and long before...
If you like art, good biography or just an interesting story of two American artists growing up, I highly recommend this book.
